The Tragic Tale of Dashed Hopes: Pop-Arazzi Polish

Picture this: you're wandering around CVS with a spastic four-year-old, looking for any hint of anything new. Aisles of same-old suffocating you while the rest of the world basks in the glory of whatever thing Wet'n'Wild or Milani has recently released. Then you spy something different, a bright fresh spot peeking out at you from a dark corner. Excitedly, you grab two and make a mad dash for the register (all while singing Christmas songs because four-year-old). This should be the part where we all walk into the sunset all fairy-tale perfect, right? Nope. Instead, this is a horror story.

It isn't often that Amanda and I agree on something. We can't even agree on a banner (not for lack of trying. I'm really proud of that one.) for the blog. So imagine my surprise when I found that we had independently discovered the same nail polish...and had the same opinion! I figure if we both agree, it must be true.

Short But Sweet

This polish stinks like sadness and misery and awful. It does. Well, ok...it smells exactly like Kleancolor polishes, but it doesn't have the actually decent formula to balance out the awful. I was immediately struck by how badly it stunk...and then I applied it. It was like half-set syrup. I needed three clumsy coats to cover the streaks, and in person I could still see them under a generous layer of seche vite. It also smelled under that layer...and continued to off-gas for the several hours that I wore this (for science). The smell even seemed to be reinvigorated when I went to remove the polish. I had to give my nails a good scrubbing to cleanse myself of the smell.

It's too bad, because I actually found a flattering shade of coral for my goofy skintone.

Surf 'n' Turf

This color had a much easier to deal with formula than the coral, but it was still horrid. The polish bubbled. Actual little pockmarks in my manicure. UNACCEPTABLE. I used three coats, and the pearly pigment helped disguise the streaks and troughs that, again, refused to level themselves. This polish is unapologetically bad...like a predictable villain in a tween movie. And that awful stench still oozed from it for 36 hours after initial application...even through three additional layers of polish. WUT.

Again, a shame here. The color is actually nice.

The Tl;dr is to run, screaming, in the opposite direction if you see these polishes. Do not be drawn in by the adorable packaging and affordable price. You will regret your decision completely. You will spend the rest of your days lamenting...and trying to find someone to pawn these travesties off on.

  1. I've read several reviews of this polish and all of them are not good. I'll be sure to stay away from these! The coral color is pretty, it's a shame it stinks.

    2. I hv velvet vision, & like u, attracted by snazzy pkging. I usually open to smell, chk brush & texture, but 2 x 3$, think made mistake. Love color, smells really dreadful, thot how bad forworkers. But 1 coat covers & dries soooo fast, which creates streaks if you dont redip each stroke & shake bottle good, keep brush vrry wet. But i wud go for other brands now that hv tried. Too much work. Wonder what chinese crapola ingredient is in, like rubber or ?

  6. Lol! Thank goodness for your blog. I'm standing in a cvs with my 3 month old and hadn't been to a cvs in ages. Was curious for what's new and I saw their display and was intrigued. Guess I will be passing this one by.

  8. Its a $3 nail polish, are you really gonna point out such small flaws about something that is literally cheap? lol They come in tons of colors and theyre convenient as HELL if you just want to add some color to your polish collection, or just wanna add a little something to your nails really quick. So sensitive.

    1. $3 is a lot of money to pay for something so horribly offensive. Wet'n'Wild is a buck, and does not make me gag. Sinful Colors is $2 and does not make me gag. I can pick up an amazing indie polish for under $10 and have it be stunning and unique and not at all disgusting.

And when I "just wanna add a little something to [my] nails really quick" I am not going to choose a polish whose formula is worse than day-old house paint. I'll choose something that is smooth, easy to apply, and quick to set up.

      gosh, so sensitive.

  9. Regardless of price, I would never spend my hard-earned money on something that was unpleasant to me. Why waste money on something you're not happy with?

  10. I totally back up this review and only wish I had seen it before purchase. I am a glitter hound and saw this polish brand in a color called never too rich which is an amazing looking green glitter....but the moment I got it home and opened it I knew I had made a huge mistake. The smell was bad but I thought hey I paid for it so I'll see how it applies. Terrible. Went on gooey and STAYED gooey forever. It was so gross I removed it and trashed it. Seriously it isn't worth a dime! Stay away from this gunk.

  11. These polishes do smell horrible. The colors are amazing. I on the other hand also happen to love this product.

The downside is that they do take a while to dry; so if you're a busy person I wouldn't recommend these unless you're having a lazy day. I work with my hands and change my polish every few days so I don't mind that it's sometimes streaky.

If you don't use a base coat your nail will stain. Tested a color out and in the 40 minutes it took me to get home to remove it my nail was stained. Always use a base coat :)

  12. I received a birthday gift from CVS, a free poparazzi polish. Haven't had bought a polish for myself in forever, I went online right away to see my color options! But then came across all of the horrible reviews! So disappointing. :( No birthday present for me.
