Naked Rainbows

promotional samples ahead

My obsession with shiny naked things rolls on. When I tried Bare It All, I knew it needed more...but what? Then I got a swatch package from Demi at Baroness X, and she included this as a thank-you (really, I should be the one baking this chick cookies!) and I knew my shiny-thing prayers had been answered.

For the purposes of being thorough, I'll throw out my thoughts on this holo topper...even though I wasn't asked. I used two coats for this, though I think one would have been fine. I had read around that spectraflair toppers tend to silver or gray a manicure a bit, but this one wasn't too bad. In fact, I think it was just the thing that Bare It All needed to bring it closer to my actual skin tone.

This actually isn't my first holo topper. A long while back, I bought a mini bottle of spectraflair topper from Piper Polish. I wasn't very well versed in indie polish, and I didn't really know what to expect from a topper like that. Tl;dr I was a little underwhelmed and ended up tossing it into a drawer. After leaving it sitting for months and months, I used it in my frankenpolish Asilomar. It wasn't as strong, rainbow-wise, as this one.

this isn't the best picture, but I love that it looks opalescent here
Swatching holos is hard for me this time of year. Just when everyone else is cheering the clear skies and warmer weather, I start getting fog and chill. Coastal living, I guess. But I wanted to share my process for this particular manicure/photo session. Misery loves company...and at the very least you'll get a chuckle out of it.

I woke up, had some coffee, and took a peek out the window. Yes! Sunshine! I quickly cleaned up my manicure, washed my hands, applied some lotion and went in search of my shoes. I wrestled the cat out of the way and pulled the curtains back...and there was fog. FOG. GODDAMMIT. I kicked off my shoes and sat down. I drank more coffee, because shaky hands are fabulous for photography. An hour passed. I attempted to use an incandescent bulb...nope. After three hours, the sun peeked out and I was ready! I got a few good shots of the rainbow.

Nail polish is serious business, ya'll.

This isn't the first time I posted this. I loved it so much that I practically spammed the universe with it. I even posted it on Instagram a few weeks ago. I can't wait to try this over everything.
